Bad Day But Everything OK Now

Saturday, August 16th 2008 @ 11:28 PM    post viewed 331 times

Actually my bad day was yesterday (Friday) but I wanted to wait to post about it until I knew everything was ok.

First - our daughter who is 23 weeks pregnant with twin boys was in an automobile accident. She sat outside (Jacksonville Police - ugh!) for over an hour and a half while everything was being taken care of. Someone stopped in the middle of the road and she couldn't get to a complete stop. She hit the car going maybe 5 or 10 mph so not much damage. Anyway once the police were done with her she thought she better head to the hospital, not feeling very good at that point. She spent about 6 hours in the hospital hooked up to IV's and monitor. She was dehydrated and they noticed blood in the urine, and uterus irritation - no contractions Thank God. Found out she has a severe UTI so they let her go home. She is on complete bedrest for the weekend and has to go to the doctors on Monday for complete checkup. She has her regular OB/GYN plus the high risk doctors. Tiffany gets pre-eclampsia with her pregnancies so she is watched very closely. Everyone, daughter and grandsons are doing fine right now.

I couldn't go to Jacksonville to be with her because I had my own emergency here. Hubby and I went on a hay run about 12:30, went by the pastures and looked everyone over like usual. Grace, our Arabian was just starting to lay down and roll when we went by. I thought it was just a normal roll for her, so we went on to get hay. Well about 45 minutes when we arrived home, we are throwing the hay out and see Grace lay down, get up, lay down, get up - colic!!!! I called the vet immediately so he could have a heads up that I needed him. Then proceeded to lead Grace out of the pasture and begin the walking. Ugh - from 1:30pm to 6:30pm we walked. Hubby and I took turns so that we could rest, drink water and be there for Grace. Once the vet came out he gave her a shot and some mineral oil - boy what a dump she made after that. But the worries were not over. I went out to check on her every 2 hours all night long. She is fine and I believe she is out of the woods. I don't think my legs will ever be the same. So tired and sore today. But definitely worth it! She is alive and well now - that is the main thing. Doesn't even matter that I'll have yet another vet bill, with a house call on it - as long as everyone is ok, that is all that matters.

Thats my day - today was better. Still recuperating from yesterday but all in all - it was a good day.

Sorry this post is so long - pretty winded tonight. Anyway, hope everyone has a great day/night.

Thanks Sherry for your updates and comments for the community.

You are truly an inspiration with devotion to family and and your sheltered horses.

These are the things so many do not realize goes on with people caring for animals.  The time, devotion, and even exhaustion, is taken in stride, even while crisis within the family happens.  Bless you for all your loving work.  Hope you get some good sleep this weekend, and keep us updated on the rest of your family as well.

UPDATE:

Daughter is doing fine. She made it through the weekend, had a few contractions but thank God they stopped. It is definitely to soon for our little bundles of joy to come into the family just yet. Tiffany is no longer working, doctors orders so hopefully it will keep her off complete bedrest for a while yet. Her high blood pressure and carrying twins keeps us nervous, actually me and I try not to show it when I am with her. She does good though; she knows what she can and can not do. I believe we are close to the 24 week mark, not sure so will have to check with her again. Expecting them here at the house on Sunday, it's Teddy's 1 year birthday - golly how time flies by. Seems like it was just yesterday we were at the hospital and I was helping to deliver him - wow, what a miracle. Anyway, daughter and babies are doing fine - doctors appointment on Friday.

Now for Grace. Well you would never believe that she was even sick. She is back to normal. Eating, drinking and tormenting everyone else in the pasture. She is very good at getting everyone riled up, especially at feeding time. Stay away from her back end - she lets everyone know to stay away from "her food". Grace is teaching Sally the same. The two mares are always together and teaching each other there "bad and good" habits. Poor Charlie seems to get the most of it - but he fights back. Tough little boy and attitude! Geez.

Anyway, just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that everyone is doing fine and coming through their ordeals very well. Glad all the worries from Friday are over. Now until the next worries appear - hopefully not for a while though.

Our big one right now is the Campaign Pledge we are doing. Looking for 400 people to pledge $10 for 1 year... not much but when you multiply by 400 it will be a lifesaver for us.

TLHR Update

Sunday, August 10th 2008 @ 12:54 AM    post viewed 166 times

The sun is actually starting to poke through the clouds here at TLHR. We hit the pavement trying to drum up more business for the hubby and landed 2 clients. Not real big, and not long term - but it's a start. Which in turn means that we have a little reprieve.

TLHR will be mostly going month to month until we know how everything is going to turn out. We are going to continue searching for a new location - the house is way to big for only the two of us and the utilities are awful. Hopefully we can find a small house on property that would fit into our budget better and be great for the horses.

I have put together another video, I can't believe it either but I wanted to put something together on the horses here at the rescue. Please take a look and I hope you enjoy meeting our "babies".

Until next update! Thank you for all your prayers and support. God Bless!

Today is a Little Better

Thursday, August 7th 2008 @ 11:11 PM    post viewed 164 times

Today is a little better and I know whatever is meant to be will be. I won't give up the fight just yet.

I have had one friend come through and offer a foster home, she can only take one but that is a start. She was heartbroken to find out about our situation and said she will do anything she can to help keep us open. With her as a foster home I believe I can keep my 501c3, continue fundraising and hope that enough funds come in to get us going again. So there is a little light shining.

Also, since the announcement I received $30.00 from a retiree that wanted to help. It's not much, but it is so heartfelt because it came from someone that doesn't really have money to spare.

We had a donation of $40.00 in our paypal account, they "just wanted to help and wished it could be more". Every little bit helps, every dollar counts.

I have also had one person offer a place for us and the babies. I’m in the process of getting more information from her – location/acreage, etc. Not much just a camper and some acreage, but its something. It may be a possibility, won’t know until I get more info. - UPDATE: As much as I would love to take this wonderful woman up on her offer I had to decline. The location is in West Virginia, just to far for us to go. I had to decline because our daughter is expecting twins. She has a 7 yr old, 1 yr old and is only 22 weeks along with the twins. Our daughter has high blood pressure and has already been told to quit work, she may end up on bedrest if it isn't controlled. I cannot bring myself to move farther away just in case she needs us.

I also found a website, from a yahoo group (sorry can’t remember which one to give them the credit) but it is Wish Upon a Hero – I registered and put together a wish. Hopefully that will also send us some help.

I really hate asking for help but as my husband pointed out, "you are a charity, a non profit and you live by donations. Just because the business is closing doesn't mean that there is no hope for the rescue. People will come if you let them know the situation." He was right, although we may not get enough help in the time frame needed but hopefully we will be able to actually re-open our doors in the future.

This is the latest news. The donations aren't much, but still they are like a million bucks to me. Every little bit helps and every little bit gives me more hope. I will give everything I have to save the horses and the rescue.

Thank you for listening.

Sherry - you have the heart and passion it requires to do this wonderful work, we are all praying for you and doing things behind the scenes to help.

A couple suggestions.

Get a hold of your local newspapers and radio stations.  See if they will do a human interest story on your situation - perhaps even an interview, and a visit to your rescue site.  If for any reason you do not receive a positive response then call the news paper and ask them to place the information regarding your current situation in the community happenings or press release area. (have something ready and typed up, short and to the point)  In anything you put out request donations of supplies and food for the animals.  Some are reluctant to offer monetary gifts, but you may have many people in your area with an extra bale or two of hay or extra supplies... it could get the ball going and the word around faster than you can possibly do alone.  Be bold, it's for these loving horses, and your have to continue with that great fighting spirit for them while things are tough.

God bless, and keep good thoughts,

Margaret

The End is Near - Closing

Monday, August 4th 2008 @ 10:28 PM    post viewed 176 times

I am writing this with a heavy heart and many tears tonight. Triple "L" Horse Rescue will be closing its doors at the end of August. The rest of this month I will be trying to find a place for the horses we have (4), finding a home for our 2 pomeranians, our 2 cats and cockatiel.

I have tried my best, just wasn't good enough. Hearts are made to be broken just like dreams. You know I really don't care that my heart is broken and my dream has gone up in smoke, it's the horses, dogs and cats that I cry for now. They are like my children and I hope and pray that I can find a loving, forever home for each one of them. They all have given me unconditional love and trust. They have never let me down, but I am letting them down. I cannot give them what I promised.

At this time I cannot continue. I am to upset to even think of what to write so I will end this now. When everything is taken care of I will make a final post as to how it all turns out. I will post about the homes we find our pets and will post where we end up. We won't be living where we are now because we won't be able to pay rent, looks like we will have to move in with our kids for awhile - not what I want to do. Life for us will be so different - never was without a home before, that will be a new way of life.

Thank you for letting me be a part of this site. Wish I could have been here to see it when it really takes off. Good luck and may God Bless!

Until my final post.

Hi Sherry -

I know things look very bleak right now, but hang in there.  Many are praying for you, and much is being done behind the scenes to assist you in what every way possible.

Please do continue to update us and let us know of the wonderful people who have responded to your situation.

$$ for food  ($500 target) for the horses seems to be the critical item now, so we will continue to spread the word through our resources.  When we are ready to interview, we would love to do an interview with you and your wonderful lifes work.  The situation you are in right now, is one of the reason this community exists - to help wonderful work like yours continue.

Anyone reading this post, please check out Sherry's great cook book - a bargain, and full of great recipies for horses and people!

Blessings,

Margaret - Co-Administrator - PLAN

Margaret,

Thank you for all the support and the talks. It has been extremely tough around here and because of you I am finding my strength again. I spend a lot of time with the horses talking to them and loving on them. They look at me like I'm a little wacko but they won't leave my side when I'm in the pasture. I find myself apologizing to them and crying, you know what? That doesn't help anything, crying and getting depressed won't help or fix the situation. I am a fighter, I was brought up to fight for what I believed in and it's time to find that strength again. I use to never cry, but I have cried more in the last week than I have in my entire life I think. No more! Time to get control and fight.

Thank you Margaret! Thank you for waking me up and giving me hope. Thank you for sharing ideas with me. Most of all - Thank you for being a friend.

Lots of hugs to you and Neal!

~Sherry
